Founded in 1996 by Jessica Fredericks and Andrew Freiser, Fredericks & Freiser is one of the defining independent galleries of its generation. Among the first to establish a presence in Chelsea, the gallery helped shape the neighborhood's emergence as a global center for contemporary art. The gallery is known for giving first New York solo exhibitions to artists who later became defining voices, including Mary Reid Kelley and Jenna Gribbon, with works acquired by MoMA, the Whitney, and Tate Modern.
