About
White Columns is New York's oldest alternative art space, established in 1970 by artists including Jeffrey Lew and Gordon Matta-Clark. Originally known as the 112 Workshop in SoHo, it currently operates at 91 Horatio Street near the Whitney Museum. The gallery functions as a non-profit institution offering free public access. Its core mission centers on supporting emerging artists who lack established critical or commercial recognition. Over its five-decade history, it has fostered numerous artists who later achieved prominence.
